24/5, so it begins!

Well this is what many of you begged and pleaded for. It's happening-- a 24 hour library. It will be 5 days/week up until reading day, and then 24/7 for the rest of Finals.

So, what are you doing in the 24 hour library?
Group study?
Paper writing?

What are the advantages to you?
What problems are you encountering?
Etc.

Please, do tell.

  1. The 24 hour library is a beautiful idea!
I'm writing a paper, and actually skimming at random books, I haven't done that in ages!
For some of the night, I will be sleeping ofcourse and then I will go to my classes in the morning...

One thing I want to suggest is to have more recycling bins accessible on each floor (paper, plastic etc.). This way we do not feel compelled to waste as much, and would it be possible to borrow laptops over-night?
It feels shameful that we are not able to even though they are right there.

Other than that, keep up the good work!

  2. I will be using the library extensively to use the microfilm to finish research for my thesis. I have been working in special colections, which opens only from 9-5. This limited the amount of time I could spend with the microfilm and I would often get on a roll or uncover some interesting fact only to hear the PA blare. At least for the next month, I won't have to worry about that.

  3. I am doing homework on the wonderfully abundant desk space that I once only did in the Woodward 335 computer lab. It is so wonderful to have more space for textbooks, my laptop, and a window, plus there are more resources available to me (like Atkins library journal subscriptions), and I can even take breaks to read books casually!

    I like it a lot.

  4. I am working to finish up my paper tonight (at 3 am)!! I am so glad that I could come and work in the library, because only the campus computers run the system I need to use for my PolSci class. I did not have time today to run anylisis, so now I am her.

    Thanks for 24/7!!

  5. Brilliant idea! I'm a first year grad student, and I was impressed when I found out about this 24-hour Library advantage. It is difficult to study and write papers at home so this is a God-send!
